Looking to freshen up the look of your living room? Then maybe it’s time to try a new paint colour. It’s less expensive than a new sofa and will have a much bigger impact. But with all the hues out there, which do you choose?
To make the choosing a lot easier, here we share all the living room paint colours designers are loving in 2026. We promise you’re sure to find just the right hue for your living space’s new look.
And while these interior paint shades are on trend for 2026, they are also part of timeless country style that you’re sure to love for many years to come – whether your house has a cottagecore aesthetic or leans a little more farmhouse. No matter what colour you choose, it will help set the scene for a cosy living space and provide the perfect backdrop for vintage collectables and unique wall decor.
Vintage pinks
Warm, pinky-neutral colours are flattering in almost any space, so there’s good reason they are trending in living rooms this year. More and more, people are seeking this expressive “vintage pink” to personalise their spaces, according to a Pinterest trend report for 2026. “Colour is everywhere, but it’s more about monochromatic tones within one colour story, and those colours are dusty rusty colours not bright primary colours,” says designer Leanne Ford.
“Often reserved for bedrooms, soft pinks are an inviting, charming colour to use in living spaces," explains Ruth Mottershead, Creative Director at Little Greene. "They provide a warm, elegant atmosphere that’s perfect for relaxing or entertaining."

Warm jewel tones
Another set of colours shining in living spaces this year is jewel tones: Think deep blues, emerald greens, golds and reds. It’s part of a larger trend designer Max Humphrey sees as country “going luxe” in 2026 in a way that’s “more over-the-top and extra comfy.” “Whether it is through the use of materials (velvet, mohair, rich suede, full-grain leather) or the colour palette (jewel tones, mustard yellow, warm red), it’s about buying less but better and indulging at home,” Max says.

Light yet rich hues
Another realm of colours designers are favouring this year are rich hues that easily play second fiddle to layers of personality injected through upholstery and textiles. Think muted yet softly vibrant colours like teals, browns and greens that make a subtle statement while also making a great backdrop for other colours in the room. “We love that our clients are wanting a richer colour palette and to play with patterns and textures,” says designer Abby Hetherington.

Calming whites
Nothing says calm in a room like a shade of white on the walls, and while it’s nothing new in design trends, it’s still going strong in 2026. “White walls are softening, and rooms are getting fully colour drenched in beige, from the walls to the ceiling to the trim,” says designer Jenni Yolo. With all the options out there in the white family, choosing the best one for your walls can be overwhelming, consider how to use white and which tone to pick carefully.

Limewash walls
This age-old decorating technique is trending this year as homeowners and designers are loving how it brings warmth, texture, and a sense of history to any space. What is limewash? It’s a mineral-based paint made from crushed limestone that has been burned and mixed with water – once applied, it creates a soft, cloudy finish with natural variation. This unique take on paint is sure to add instant character and create a calm, muted palette for your living space.
