Straight from your grocer's freezer, the dough for this sweet-and-savory, apple-cheese danish rises to the occasion — no flour, food processor, or kneading required. Ingredients

  • 1 (7.5-ounce) package farmer cheese
  • 1/3 cup plus 2 teaspoons granulated sugar, plus more for sprinkling
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 2 medium Gala apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
  • 1 tsp. lemon juice
  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed

Directions

    1. Step 1Combine farmer cheese, 1/3 cup sugar, egg, vanilla extract, and salt in a medium bowl.
    2. Step 2Toss apples with lemon juice and 2 teaspoons sugar. Set aside.
    3. Step 3Preheat oven to 400°F. Roll each pastry strip to a 6-inch square. Divide cheese mixture among squares. Top with apples, layering slices.
    4. Step 4Fold in 2 opposite corners of dough to meet in middle of pastry. Sprinkle with sugar. Transfer to parchment-lined baking pan. Bake until golden, 20 to 25 minutes.
