Hot Buttered Yum

This alcohol-free version of the classic Christmas drink is absolutely delicious.

Want to serve up a classic warm winter cocktail, but not looking for the groggy feeling that goes with it? This non-alcoholic take on Hot Buttered Rum is the drink for you.

You can keep it warm in a slow cooker and let guests (kids included) help themselves! It's got all the sweetness, spice, and buttery yumminess of the original, but without any alcohol. And it's not difficult to make, either!

Ingredients

  • 2 (12-oz) cans cream soda
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
  • 2 star anise pods, plus more for garnish
  • 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp. ground allspice

Directions

    1. Step 1Pour soda into a pitcher or 4-cup (or larger) measuring cup and stir with a spoon until foam subsides and carbonation dissipates, 3 to 4 minutes. 
    2. Step 2Melt butter in a medium saucepan over low heat. Add star anise, cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice and stir to combine. Add cream soda and simmer, stirring occasionally, until warmed through, 8 to 10 minutes. Serve warm, garnished with cinnamon sticks.
