In 1973, go-to greeting card company Hallmark branched out into creating heartfelt ornaments meant to be cherished for years to come. The first year, the company rolled out six glass ball ornaments and 12 yarn figures. Since then, Hallmark has released more than 8,500 ornaments. To celebrate the 45th anniversary this year, the company introduced more than 200 new Hallmark Keepsake Ornaments. In honor of the milestone, we're looking back on some of our favorite ornaments from each year.
Choo-choo! Many Hallmark ornaments feature trains (who didn’t want to walk down the stairs to see a train set on Christmas morning?), and this one is especially stunning with handcrafted details.
If you saw this ornament and didn’t know it was made in 1981, you would think it’s one of the latest products in the Anthropologie holiday catalog. Hallmark added homemade, floral details to this timeless tree decor.
Hallmark knows a thing or two about cute animal ornaments, and this one made in 1983 is no exception. We love the way the raccoon, bunny, and hedgehog are happily singing carols together.
The holidays are all about those things you loved to do as a kid, like scoping out your favorite sledding hill. Relive your glory days with this festive sled ornament.
We have no doubt that you’ve received a Hallmark keepsake or two as gifts over the years. The company has customized many of their ornaments with heartwarming messages. This one says: “To my sweetheart with love.”
“Frosty Friends” is the longest-running Hallmark ornament series (35 years!), and this installment—starring a seal along with Frosty—is one of our favorites.
