Great news: Summer is officially here! Days are getting hotter and longer, which means nights are shorter—and your A.C. may be struggling to cool a room, even when the sun goes down. In order to get your bedroom whipped into summer shape, we’re sharing a few tried-and-true upgrades you can make today. From cooling your sleep space with lighter materials to bringing visual changes that reflect a new season, these ideas are primed to help you transform your bedroom into the ultimate escape during the year’s hottest months.
Swap Your Sheets
Lean into linen bedding this summer. If you haven’t already, now is the time to swap out any thick sheets or heavy quilts for lighter, more breathable alternatives. Linen sheets require a short break-in period, so don’t be surprised if they feel a bit stiffer than classic percale during the first few nights. After a few sleep (and laundry) cycles, you’ll start to understand the hype.
Pare Down Your Pillows
Summer sleeping is a no-frills endeavor, which means you could stand to lose a decorative pillow (or four). Streamline your bed styling with two decorative pillows at most to create a cleaner, more breathable look for the season.
Refresh Your Nightstand
This upgrade is pretty simple: Clear your bedside table! Keeping your space clean and uncluttered prevents your space from feeling cramped or stuffy come hot weather. Don’t know where to start? Clear anything you don’t reach for on a nightly basis—yes, that even means your latest book club read. Stick to the essentials and tuck any nonnecessities away in drawers. “Edit nightstands down to a few intentional objects. Negative space creates that sense of calm,” says designer Lonni Paul. Top off your renewed space with fresh-cut flowers from your garden to really embrace the summer season.
