Summertime is here, and while it’s a great time to spend time outdoors, there are plenty of reasons to stay inside and cross-stitch. Sitting indoors and away from the bugs and heat and storms can be very appealing, and it’s a perfect way to add a patriotic touch to your decor.
I’ve created more than 100 cross-stitch patterns for Country Living (they’re all available online for free), and a handful of them are great choices for celebrating the Fourth of July and the 250th anniversary of our country, or for working on while you watch the World Cup. So pick up your needle and get stitching!

U.S. Map Cross-Stitch Pattern
This one takes a bit more time and patience, but this map of the U.S. is a fun way to celebrate the semiquincentennial of our country. Switch up the colors or stick with our red, white, and blue pattern. Another fun idea: Cross-stitch all of the states you’ve visited, and fill in more as you go.
