Over three days in May, Vienna will showcase on Rathausplatz what the city is known for around the world. A best-of from Vienna’s culinary and artisan scene awaits, accompanied by the sounds of well-known Viennese musicians. From a culinary viewpoint, the Wienliebe Festival naturally focuses on Viennese cuisine, the Viennese coffeehouse and the Heurigen culture. Well-known Viennese restaurants and eateries will serve up their specialties from Saturday to Monday on Rathausplatz.

Gelbmanns Gaststube serves up every variety of schnitzel, while Figlmüller turns the Wiener Schnitzel and Tafelspitz into burgers in a refreshingly unconventional way. The former Imperial and Royal Court Confectioner Demel invites you to take a coffee break with Kaiserschmarren. The Viennese sausage stand is another must, as are Leberkäse and the beer specialties from the Ottakringer Brewery. At a Heuriger you can enjoy Viennese wine with classic wine tavern fare like Grammelknödel or Schweinsbraten. International influences also have their place at the Wienliebe Festival. After all, they’ve long been an indispensable part of Vienna’s culinary scene.

Authentic Viennese craftsmanship will also be showcased at the Wienliebe Festival on Rathausplatz, with products ranging from jewelry to soap. A total of 15 businesses will be part of the Wienliebe Festival, turning Rathausplatz into a marketplace of creativity. 

Music from Vienna

The musical backdrop also shines a light on Vienna’s diverse offerings. The cultural program at the Wienliebe Festival spans genres from the Wiener Lied to Austropop, and all the way to contemporary Viennese music. Saturday (May 23) is all about Austropop and Viennese cult classics. On Sunday (May 24), Viennese dance tradition meets musical theater highlights. In the afternoons, Vienna’s dance schools invite you to join in and dance along. And on Monday (May 25), local acts and promising newcomers show just how diverse and innovative Vienna’s music scene is today.
