Valentine’s Day is the perfect excuse to slow down and show a little extra love to the people who matter most. And what better way to do that than with a handmade card? There’s something truly special about creating (and receiving!) a Valentine made just for you—it’s thoughtful, personal, and full of heart.
Whether you’re crafting for a partner, family member, friend, or a whole classroom of kids, handmade cards are guaranteed to bring smiles. And why not get the kids in on the fun, too!? They’ll love making playful designs like a celery rose print card or a “dinomite” dinosaur Valentine for their classmates’ Valentine's boxes. Add a small gift and a silly Valentine's Day pun—think “You’re the Jam” with a mini jar of jam or “Wheel You Be My Valentine?” paired with chocolate donut holes—and suddenly you’ve got a Valentine no one will forget.
If you’re feeling extra sentimental, try making a keepsake photo card decorated with buttons or confetti, or break out the paintbrushes and create a one-of-a-kind piece of art. Finish it off with a heartfelt Valentine’s Day message to make it even more meaningful.
No matter which DIY route you take, these handmade touches are sure to spread love and joy. After all, it’s the time, care, and creativity behind each card that make Valentine’s Day feel extra sweet.
Tell them you love them with a hand-painted card and cute note. Make a loose watercolor drawing of fruits or vegetables on the front of blank note cards and add punny sayings, such as “You are rooted in my heart,” “Olive you,” and “I love you from my head tomatoes” (pictured here). To that you might add “You make my heart beet,” “You’re the apple of my eye,” “I carrot put in words how much I love you,” or “I’m nuts for you.”
To make this idea from the former Oopsey Daisy Blog, stamp the letters of the alphabet on a piece of card stock, with five to six letters per row. Use a black ink pad for all the letters except for I, O, and U. Use a red ink pad for the letters I and U, and attach a small chocolate heart in place of the O using double-sided tape. Glue or stitch a red bow to the top of the card.
